Helping People in Tragic Circumstances Move Forward in Life

St. John Christ in Action (CIA) is the long term program of St. John Immediate Needs program which helps needy people in the area with food and utility bills. Christ in Action seeks to help specific individuals or families on a deeper level than Immediate Needs. CIA visits in the homes of people in our area and seeks to help with rehabilitation and moving forward towards more independent lives. Part of the CIA program involves helping people to obtain reasonable shelter with adequate furnishings.

Christ in Action Furniture Program

St. John Christ in Action currently has an agreement with the St. Vincent DePaul (SVDP) thrift shops to trade donated furniture for store credits to be used by families/individuals seeking help from St. John. This is especially helpful since SVDP has new beds and mattresses available at a reasonable price. New bedding is often needed.

If you would like to be part of this program of donating furniture for credits in helping needy people please do the following:

1. CALL St. Vincent DePaul at 314.881.6006 and request a truck to pick up the items. (Items dropped off at the store do not count.)

2. State that the donation is “a credit for St. John Church in Ellisville.”

3. St. Vincent DePaul will provide you with a date and time window when the donation will be picked up.

4. On the day of pickup again please state that the donation is a credit for St. John.

5. A list of items available for pickup is on the next page.

6. Small household items need to be boxed.

7. You will receive a receipt for your tax records.

8. All items need to be on ground level for pick up.

Please click here for a more detailed list regarding possible donations. If you do not see an item listed, please know that it is not an acceptable item.

If you are one of our faithful members who donates to Bethesda Thrift Shop on Manchester Road, please continue to support that ministry to the mentally handicapped and drop off items at the Bethesda Thrift Shop. You may want to consider using the above program for larger furniture donations that need to be picked up.  For more information on the program at Bethesda Thrift Shop, call 636.256.6630.

For further information please contact Wayne Meyer who is currently in charge of the Christ in Action furniture program at St. John at or 636.779.2311.
