School Safety

main image

The tragedy that took place last week at a school in Florida certainly shook the nation. It has once again placed the issue of school safety front and center in the media and certainly the minds of school officials, teachers, students and parents. As a result of this horrific event, I have spent time praying for the victims’ families, law enforcement, and school leaders as they navigate through the next few weeks. Since last week, I have joined in conversations and prayers with some of you. As I consider these conversations and the weight this event puts on my heart, I would like to share my thoughts and our efforts regarding various aspects of our safety plan with you.

One of STJ core values is Quality Learning Environment. As we strive to meet this value, we have put a strong emphasis on school safety. As a result, we actively consider our emergency response protocols and procedures. In addition, we routinely assess daily practices and methods focusing on remaining proactive in an ever-changing student safety environment. In conjunction with our local police and fire departments, we routinely update procedures that include how to handle all emergencies from fire and tornados, to lockdown and intruder alerts. Teachers receive training on these procedures from our administrative staff as well as our local first responders. While no amount of planning and training can make our systems perfect, we are committed to continual improvement as we adapt to an ever-changing world.

We appreciate the opportunity to provide a safe environment within a well-known community. While we hope to never use our emergency plans, we want you to know that we actively work to ensure these plans align with best practices. As you consider last week’s events, I urge you to join with me in prayer for the families who have been directly affected along with the safety of students attending schools across the nation. As we move forward, I pray that you feel confident in the safety of your child at STJ and celebrate the quality environment they are able to enjoy.

God’s Peace -

What's Happening at STJS

Upcoming Events

  • Enrollment continues - see below for more detail
  • Thursday, February 22 - Science and Learning Fair @ 6:30pm
  • Friday, February 23 - Out of uniform - Spirit Wear in celebration of our Boys & Girl's Basketball Teams qualifying for the State Basketball Tournament.

Celebrating Spiritual Growth: Spiritual Growth is an important value at STJ.  I always appreciate opportunities when I can reflect on my faith and need for a Savior.  In addition,  I also embrace opportunities when reflection occurs as a result of an experience.  Last week, students participated in a chapel where these elements occurred.  While we strive to always provide a great experience for students as they engage in mid-week worship, last weeks celebration of Ash Wednesday allowed students to reflect while experiencing ashes on their foreheads.

The Bible verse below reminds me that I need Jesus.  I need a Savior.  I feel blessed to be part of a community that recognizes and values this truth.  May God continue to bless and transform your family as you walk through the season of Lent.

John 14:6 - Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Thank you to the many STJ families who have walked through the re-enrollment process.  We have received some great feedback regarding the new online process and look forward to expanding this service for the future.  If you have not yet enrolled, it is time to walk through this process.  We utilize our enrollment to help prepare elements for the 2018-2019 school year.  We are honored to serve your family and ask that you contact the office if you have any questions regarding the enrollment process.

Join Us for our Learning Fair this Thursday! We are excited about our Learning Fair held on Thursday of this week.  Several students will be presenting and sharing projects they have been working on in various classes.  Make sure you take the time to visit multiple classrooms and learning spaces throughout the night.  It is a great opportunity to support student learning and celebrate the work students have accomplished.  You can also visit the Book Fair in the Library throughout the evening.

Book Fair is this Week! Our Spring Book Fair is open in the library all this week, February 18 - 23.  Please stop by  to check out the latest books available by Scholastic or to look at our child's completed wish list.  All proceeds from the Book Fair go back to our amazing Library to support reading for our students.  In addition, the Book Fair will be  open during the Learning Fair on February 22.  It is a great time to grab a good book!

The Annual School Auction is quickly approaching on March 2. We are looking forward to celebrating with you in a tropical fashion!

Volunteers are still needed to work the night of our 31st Annual School AuctionIf you are interested, please email

We are excited to grant you access to the STJ PowerSchool Portal.  A PowerSchool log-on will grant you access to view student information, attendance, and Single Sign-On capabilities to many of our online tools, including Canvas, LunchTime, and re-enrollment.  If you have any questions regarding signing up for a PowerSchool account, please let us know.  We are excited to provide this update to families and encourage our K-8 families to sign up as we begin 2018.  We pray this portal will bless your family in the new year.

The STJ Annual Fund is a key piece of the school’s fundraising efforts each year. As we consider this year's effort, we ask that you prayerfully consider giving a contribution in support of our Annual Fund. You will be joining with parents, grandparents, family members, alumni, friends and businesses who all support our school. Gifts large and small make a difference and enrich every aspect of the educational experience for our students.  Learn more about the Annual Fund or to make a generous gift.
