Our team of short-term mission trip participants left St. Louis on Saturday and have arrived in Cambodia. Time to get to work.
Our team of six is getting the last minute preparations ready for our long journey to Cambodia. We are headed to Sihanoukville, a city on the ocean, to spend time with our on the ground partners, Stronghold Cambodia. Our team consists of three returning members who have each been to Cambodia at least two times, but not to our newest place in Sihanoukville. After almost 6 years of going to Cambodia we are so looking forward to seeing this new place, which opened in October of 2014, and meeting the students. We are also being joined by Dr. Mike Frith, a dentist who will be seeing the children of Stronghold Cambodia for the first time. We are looking forward to seeing Diane and Tim Esala, our full time missionaries on the ground and finding out more about their work at Stronghold Cambodia. They started their time in Cambodia last October, so this is the first St. John team to come and visit them.
We have lots of things planned for our time there, we will be assisting the teachers daily with English lessons, painting the outside of the building that Stronghold is renting for their aftercare program, and of course seeing the students that need dental work. We will have a dental clinic set up and will see our first patients on Wednesday. We are planning to do a one day VBS type program with a puppet skit, songs, crafts and games on Sunday, January 23rd. We will be inviting the entire neighborhood as well as the students at Stronghold Cambodia to that we can proclaim the Love of Jesus to as many people as we can.
Our final days will be spent touring Angkor Wat, which is a 12th century Buddhist temple located in Siem Reap and is one of the true wonders of the world. (so they say in Cambodia)
We ask for prayers for good health and safe travels for our team, as well as God’s transforming work for both our team as well as the students and staff at Stronghold Cambodia and any others we are able to touch while we are in Cambodia.
