Teacher's Return

The past week has been very exciting as STJ teachers have officially returned to campus. As the first day of school approaches, our staff has been busy preparing their rooms, decorating the hallways and engaging in learning opportunities which reinforce excellent instruction and classroom practices. As part of the process, you should have also received communication from your child’s homeroom teacher welcoming you to their classroom, back to school, and upcoming events.
I pray you are also ready to launch into the new school year. With every new grade level, there are new experiences that await. There will be new opportunities for students to grow in their faith, academics, and relationships. Through these experiences, there will also be new challenges and celebrations. I pray that you are able to embrace all that the new school year brings while focusing on the words of this year’s theme, “In Christ Alone.” We look forward to seeing many of you on our campus this week.

Camaraderie and Encouragement

Students in Grades 5-8 recently had the opportunity to go skiing at Hidden Valley.  The program that students participated is designed to walk them through several different stations.  Each station teaches and reinforces the practice of basic fundamentals of skiing.  While students gained proficiency during their time on the slopes, I noticed the students practicing some other important skills.

While on the ski slopes at Hidden Valley I was inspired by the encouragement students offered each other.  Not only did students exhibit encouraging comments, but I also noticed patience, kindness, and care for one another.  For example, not every student was able to pass through the ski stations as quickly as their peers.  Yet, I saw students staying together and encouraging each other.  If a student fell on the slopes, several students would stop to make sure their classmate was alright. The stories, camaraderie and encouragement that I heard in the lodge was also impressive.  I am proud of our students, their behavior, and their genuine care of others.

A strong community continues to be a value that guides our program.   As I consider the verse from 1 Thessalonians, I recognize that our student community only becomes stronger when we are able to care and encourage one another.  Fortunately, I witness student kindness often at St. John in a variety of situations.  It was great to see it displayed on this field trip. - Scott Osbourn

1 Thessalonians 5:11 - Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing
