At School of the Arts, we value teaching faith expression through the arts. We currently offer private lessons in voice, piano, violin, viola, guitar, flute and drums. We’re adding new classes every session. School of the Arts is for all ages—ages almost 8 to 80! We’ve seen multiple students from middle school age to adults consistently serve in our worship services. Some will even go on to pursue careers in music. We are committed to serving not only St. John families, but the surrounding community as well. Private lessons with Christian professionals starts here.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do the lessons work?
We currently offer private lessons in voice, piano, guitar, drums and strings. School of the Arts runs on a trimester basis, with fall, spring and summer sessions. Each semester provides the student with a weekly, 30-minute lesson.
What time commitment is required from the student?
Students register for each session. Each session will provide the student with a specific number of lessons within a specifc time frame. For example, a session may have 13 lessons over a 16 week period. The extra weeks provide a small measure of flexibility for the student or instructor in case of sickness or emergency.
Who are our instructors?
Our instructors are Christian, professional musicians, each providing years of performance experience. They teach from a performance perspective, training the student to their interest, balancing that with the required skills to produce the best performance.
What types of music does School of the Arts teach?
We're much more than a one –note music school. Our instructors cover all genres, from classical to jazz to popular music and of course, worship. The student and instructor will choose the best course of study based on the student's musical ability, needs and goals.
Where do the lessons take place?
Lessons take place at the St. John Ministry Center on the 2nd floor. We teach in a variety of rooms. If you drive to the St. John Campus and turn onto the west parking lot (between the church and Einstein's), look for the Ministry Center about 2/3 of the way down the campus. Enter through the Ministry Center door and take the elevator to the second floor. Exit the elevator and a receptionist or instructor will be there to greet you and help you find your room.
What times and days are available?
We have instructors available for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons and evenings. Time slots vary depending on the instructor's current student roster. To find specific time slots available, please email Melissa Bishop, Director of School of the Arts, or call her at 636.779.2386.
What is the cost of the lessons?
As of the January, 2013, instrumental lessons are $22.50 a lesson; Voice lessons are $26.00 a lesson. The total tuition may vary depending on how many lessons are in a given session. Every student will be contracted for a specific number of lessons per session. Tuition may be paid in full at the beginning or in three payments over the session. This will be set at the time of registration.
How do I register?
Please email Melissa Bishop, Director of School of the Arts, or call her at 636.779.2386.
