Today was International Children's day so we took 46 Cambodian children to the beach. It was an amazing experience. We arrived at Stronghold Cambodia around 7:45am this morning and were told that some of the children were so excited that they were actually there at 6am!
We rode in a truck that, in America, it would have seated 10 adults or 15 children. There were 46 children and 2 adults! What a ride! We got to the beach around 8:30am and the children were ready to go! We started the day with songs and a devotion by Jesse. The "theme" of the day was "let the little children come to me" an amazing Bible story about the children trying to get close to Jesus and the disciples stopping them saying that Jesus couldn't be bothered. This really upset Jesus and he said to let the children come to him to receive his blessing. This reminds me that our faith should be like the children- not questioning, just eager to hear and learn more.
The team put on a skit and taught the kids a new song- fishers of men. We played games, sang more songs, I read a Bible story, ate lunch, a
nd then went swimming. The team served as lifeguards during this time. Although it was fun and exciting, it was also a bit nerve racking. Again, 46 children were there, some of them couldn't swim. But, after an exciting day at the beach, we left feeling good. The children heard the good news about Jesus and the air was filled with their songs of praise. Their smiles alone made our mission complete. They are happy and so are we.
After our exciting day, we had a massage at Seeing Hands- a wonderful place that teaches blind people to give massages. Let me just say that it was awesome (and only $6 for 60 minutes!) and I really hope to go back the next time I am in Cambodia. We finished the evening having dinner with the teachers of Stronghold Cambodia at Holy Cow- a great western restaurant. We thank the Lord for the amazing weather, good food, and most of all- Stronghold Cambodia. Amazing things are happening there and I am proud to be a part of it!
