Bright Lights and Bright Smiles

As I stand upon the roof of our hotel here in Sihanoukville watching the fireworks and Chinese lanterns counting down the days until Chinese New Year, I am reminded of the bright spots over the past six days of our journey. Our journey began by spending 24+ hours on 3 different planes to reach the Kingdom of Wonder.   During our first day in country, we learned about the horrendous genocide that took the lives of so many innocent Cambodians. Although the first few days wouldn't sound like bright spots, they were necessary steps to bring us to the soul reason we are here, to hopefully make a difference in the lives of the families that send their children to Stronghold Cambodia.

Today, Doctor Mike continued brightening the smiles of the Stronghold children. He was assisted by his "Dream Team" of Vivian, Naomi and Diane. Bill, Tim, Vicki and Damian continued to brighten the exterior of Stronghold by power washing and painting the Stronghold kitchen and another section of the exterior wall. Karen, Vicki and Damian taught today's English class. On the agenda for class today was a refresher in colors. The highlight of the class was when the children were taught the game "Twister". While the children already had a grasp on colors, they were able to learn a couple of new terms: right and left. The excitement during today's English class was through the roof!

Although only a few more days our left of our journey, we hope the impact of our time here in Cambodia will last a life time.

Until tomorrow...
