Today was both exhausting and thrilling at the same time. It was our first day of VBS with the kids on the Wind River Indian Reservation. After four days of working at the Lutheran Mission Church and local preschool, we were ready to see all of the adorable little kids again. The day was filled with music, dancing, crafts, puppets, and games. It was fun seeing kids return from past years but exciting to meet new kids too.
This year we decided to do something we had never done before. We chose to elect four Middle School kids to aid with VBS. We knew that it was vital for us to create future leaders in the community and thought this would be a great way to do just that. The four kids stepped up and were a huge help. It was fun pouring into the young leaders and encouraging them to set an example for their peers. There is little leadership on the reservation. Many fathers are out of the picture and gambling, drinking, and drugs are a huge problem. We’re trying to equip the next generation with what they need to change the poor reputation that many have fallen into. It all seems like too big of a problem to take on but the truth is that nothing is impossible with God. It’s fun getting to be his hands and feet on the reservation and sharing the Gospel with the kids. My hope is that the kids at VBS and the middle school leaders would grow to be strong messengers for Christ and initiate change in their community.
